Here I Go Again: Starting My Craft Blog… Again (Take 100)
Well, folks, here we are. Another year, another craft blog reboot. That’s right – it’s happening again. For the seventh time. Because, apparently, I just can’t let go of this dream. You might be wondering, “Didn’t you start this blog five years ago? And didn’t you say it was ‘finally the one’ three years ago?” To which I respond: “Yes, and yes. But this time is different. I swear.”
Let’s take a quick walk down memory lane, shall we?
Seven years ago, I was a bright-eyed, craft-loving newbie with grand aspirations of sharing my DIY masterpieces with the world. I’ll be the next Martha Stewart, but cooler and with more glitter, I thought. I created the blog, posted a couple of half-baked ideas, and then… well, life happened. I lost interest. But don’t worry, I didn’t let that stop me. Oh no, no. After a few months of soul-searching (read: binge-watching Netflix and trying to find myself through scented candles), I dusted off the blog, promised it a comeback, and repeated the cycle.
Rinse, repeat. Start the blog. Abandon the blog. Feel guilty. Start the blog again. Abandon it. And so on.
But this time… THIS time, things are going to be different. Why? Because I have learned all the lessons. I’ve had seven years of blog starts and stops, and I’m ready to put all that knowledge into action! I’ve honed my craft. I’ve perfected my procrastination techniques. I’ve learned how to take artsy photos of my craft supplies while the actual project sits unfinished in the corner of my craft room.
Now, you might be asking, “What will be different about this blog? What’s going to set it apart from all the other abandoned blogs of your past?” And I’ll tell you: absolutely nothing. It’s going to be just like all the others… but this time, I’m going to try a little harder to keep it alive. Or at least I’ll try to try.
Here’s my plan:
- I’ll post all the projects that I actually finished. No more posting about things I started but never completed. If I don’t have a final product, I’m just going to make a Pinterest board instead.
- I will not overcommit to doing DIY projects on a schedule. The “three posts a week” idea was a mistake before, and it will be a mistake again. Who am I kidding? I don’t have the time or energy for that.
- There will be less pressure. Gone are the days of “perfect” tutorials. This blog is about the journey, not the flawless execution. The “messy middle” is my aesthetic now, and I’m sticking with it. That unfinished scarf I’ve been knitting for three years? That’s going to be part of the charm.
So, here’s to the start of Blog 7.0. Maybe this time will be different. Maybe it won’t. Either way, I’m here for it. I’ll write when I feel inspired, craft when I feel motivated, and post when I have the energy. But no promises, because we all know how that goes.
In the end, whether this blog lives or dies, at least I’ve made it another year. Cheers to that!
